How many Idahoans are aliens?

On the March 18 Face the Nation, Bob Schieffer issued a travel advisory for visitors from outer space. Referring to the Libby trial and the Justice Department regarding the latest Bushco scandal, he would excuse aliens for thinking that government service is "harder on memory than Alzheimer's."

This administration is remarkably deficient in recall but are always able to swear they didn't do whatever was done. Is that selective memory?

Research shows that December's Bush purge consisted of almost as many U.S. attorneys as were let go in the past 25 years, with e-mails confirming that dismissals were based on perceived disloyalty to Bush's agenda.

Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein recently said that in the Bush administration, "disinformation, misinformation and unwillingness to tell the truth – a willingness to lie both in the Oval Office, in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, in the office of the vice president, the vice president himself – is something that I have never witnessed before on this scale."

Gee, do you think that's why Bush offered to have Rove and Miers testify behind closed doors, without being put under oath and with no written record of the session?

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said, "After telling a bunch of different stories about why they fired the U.S. Attorneys, the Bush Administration is not entitled to the benefit of the doubt. Congress and the American people deserve a straight answer. If Karl Rove plans to tell the truth, he has nothing to fear from being under oath like any other witness."

Oddly enough, these same Republicans have perfect recall of every talking point created by the Republican National Committee in the last 5 years. And Schieffer didn't really have to target aliens for his travel advisory; he could just as well given it to most Idahoans.

D'Souza is a Looza, Idaho!

In the Times-News, Mariana Mink recently applauded a Dinesh d'Souza op-ed, "To Say Bush Lied on Iraq is Itself a Lie." She mustn't miss d'Souza's, "How The Left Led Us Into 9/11," and his book, "The Enemy at Home."

But she'd do well to ignore Alan Wolfe's book review and opinion of d'Souza as a writer.

"Like his hero Joe McCarthy, he has no sense of shame. He is a childish thinker and writer tackling subjects about which he knows little to make arguments that reek of political extremism. His book is a national disgrace..."

It does take an ability to ignore mid-East experts in order to see the overwhelming clarity of d'Souza's charge that, "What disgusts [Muslims] is not free elections but the sights of hundreds of homosexuals kissing one another and taking marriage vows."

An unsurprising conclusion from a man who also ignores most history of western involvement in the mid-East to decide it was Clinton and Carter weakness that made us a target for 9-11 in the first place.

Walter Uhler writes that, "D'Souza writes history as if he studied under the tutelage of that historian-imbecile, Ann Coulter."

Ms. Mink mustn't allow the existence of recorded speeches (lies) by Bush, which dismiss all fact as contrary to the message, or allow fallout like the Libby trial to diminish her hero worship.

After all, d'Souza's logic is an eerie match for George's meanderings. In a December 2003 interview with Diane Sawyer, Bush excused statements that Saddam had WMDs as hard fact by responding, "What's the difference?"

Tell me, does that mean whether you actually have WMD, don't have WMD, dream about WMD, or want WMD, then you do, even if you don't?

Idaho Supports a dicTATER and a DICKtator

On Sunday’s 60 Minutes, President Bush admitted that he had watched Saddam Hussein’s execution--but only until right before the trap door opened. But then, Bush has "readers," much like kings used to have "tasters." If the "reader" finds something critical (distasteful), he makes sure the president is kept in his normal state of blissful ignorance. So I doubt Bush knows about the former Nuremberg prosecutor who some time back stated that he (Bush) should be tried along with Saddam for war crimes.

Meanwhile, there’s an urban legend concerning Cheney’s youth. Seems he dropped a glass milk bottle which broke, milk everywhere. Dick stood there glaring at the milk as it spread. His mother raced to the kitchen, took the situation in and said, "Richard, jutting your chin out will not clean up this mess." Cheney turned to his brother, Robert, and said, "Well, then what’s your plan for cleaning up my mess?"

With great portions of Iraq destroyed and some estimates of over 600,000 Iraqi civilians dead, Bush was asked whether this war had been botched. "Not at all. I think the Iraqi people owe the American people a huge debt of gratitude."

Rejecting assertions that Bushco repeatedly lied to instigate this war, Bush said his spirits were strong. Well, duh, I’d have to stay pretty drunk too if I had set such a disaster in motion let alone insisted on keeping it going.

Bush stated Saddam’s execution could have been handled better, but luckily didn’t add "at Abu-Ghraib." He also wants us to know he is not a "revengeful" person. But that might be because he is actually a preemptively vengeful person. Ask some of the people who ran against him in elections. Ask those who have been sacked for not toeing the line.

Redneck Idahoans who support Bush -- Stand on your heads before reading

Idaho and Utah typically grab first and second places in presidential approval polls. I don’t know if this is because, as one letter suggested, red necks signify no blood reaching the brain, or if people have burned an admonition to “follow the rule of the land” into their brains. The latter does not mean to stand idly by while the rule of the land is arbitrarily changed.

In an article titled ‘How Do You Spell “DICTATOR”?’, Elliot Cohen notes predictors ignored by mainstream media (paraphrased), such as a president who made facts fit the policy, deceived the nation into going to war; got Congress to transfer war-declaring power to him under false pretenses; systematically engaged in warrantless wiretapping while denying same; invaded personal banking records; canceled the right of habeas corpus for anyone he deems to be an unlawful enemy combatant; infiltrated and spied upon peaceful anti-war groups; paid journalists to tout administration policies; hired PR companies for phony war success stories; exempted himself from following many of the laws he signed; permitted abuse of detainees; and was never truly elected to office in 2004 (when suddenly exit polls were no longer reliable indicators). http://www.buzzflash.com/articles/contributors/715

The major news agencies are still owned by those who have benefited the most from this administration’s policies, and they have a big stake in keeping control of what we know. But there are alternatives; a few cited below.

Omigosh! Idaho will be virtual emptiness (sigh)

Words have failed me tonight. So, welcome to those of one of my heroes who says it better than I could anyway.

**********************************************************************************
1/10/07

Dear Mr. President,

Thanks for your address to the nation. It's good to know you still want to talk to us after how we behaved in November.

Listen, can I be frank? Sending in 20,000 more troops just ain't gonna do the job. That will only bring the troop level back up to what it was last year. And we were losing the war last year! We've already had over a million troops serve some time in Iraq since 2003. Another few thousand is simply not enough to find those weapons of mass destruction! Er, I mean... bringing those responsible for 9/11 to justice! Um, scratch that. Try this -- BRING DEMOCRACY TO THE MIDDLE EAST! YES!!!

You've got to show some courage, dude! You've got to win this one! C'mon, you got Saddam! You hung 'im high! I loved watching the video of that -- just like the old wild west! The bad guy wore black! The hangmen were as crazy as the hangee! Lynch mobs rule!!!

Look, I have to admit I feel very sorry for the predicament you're in. As Ricky Bobby said, "If you're not first, you're last." And you being humiliated in front of the whole world does NONE of us Americans any good.

Sir, listen to me. You have to send in MILLIONS of troops to Iraq, not thousands! The only way to lick this thing now is to flood Iraq with millions of us! I know that you're out of combat-ready soldiers -- so you have to look elsewhere! The only way you are going to beat a nation of 27 million -- Iraq -- is to send in at least 28 million! Here's how it would work:

The first 27 million Americans go in and kill one Iraqi each. That will quickly take care of any insurgency. The other one million of us will stay and rebuild the country. Simple.

Now, I know you're saying, where will I find 28 million Americans to go to Iraq? Here are some suggestions:

1. More than 62,000,000 Americans voted for you in the last election (the one that took place a year and half into a war we already knew we were losing). I am confident that at least a third of them would want to put their body where their vote was and sign up to volunteer. I know many of these people and, while we may disagree politically, I know that they don't believe someone else should have to go and fight their fight for them -- while they hide here in America.

2. Start a "Kill an Iraqi" Meet-Up group in cities across the country. I know this idea is so early-21st century, but I once went to a Lou Dobbs Meet-Up and, I swear, some of the best ideas happen after the third mojito. I'm sure you'll get another five million or so enlistees from this effort.

3. Send over all members of the mainstream media. After all, they were your collaborators in bringing us this war -- and many of them are already trained from having been "embedded!" If that doesn't bring the total to 28 million, then draft all viewers of the FOX News channel.

Mr. Bush, do not give up! Now is not the time to pull your punch! Don't be a weenie by sending in a few over-tired troops. Get your people behind you and YOU lead them in like a true commander in chief! Leave no conservative behind! Full speed ahead!

We promise to write. Go get 'em W!

Yours,

Michael Moore

Hallucinations and obsession

Bush, dedicating the Marine Corps museum, said:

"Years from now when America looks out on a democratic Middle East, growing in freedom and prosperity, Americans will speak of the battles like Fallujah with the same awe and reverence that we now give to Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima" in World War II."

The scream was mine.

Idaho votes based on strong GOP economy!

Strong GOP economy? Robert Freeman buried that GOP claim in ink, paraphrased below:

Millions of people have dropped out of the workforce; heckuva no good jobs, but thanks for the low unemployment rate. Meanwhile, three million high-paying manufacturing jobs went to China, and most new American jobs were low-paying service positions.

The Dow may be over 12,000, but it only indexes 30 stocks. NASDAQ, which tracks a broader collection, is 55% below its high.

Gross domestic product has gone from 5.6% to 1.6% in the last three quarters. Hello recession.

The trade deficit is over $800 billion a year, double the last year of the Clinton administration. Bush has added $3 trillion to the national debt, and so the US has to borrow almost $3 billion a day to keep functioning, mostly from foreigners. When he leaves office, Bush’s administration will have created more debt than all previous presidents combined! Finally, he gets to be #1 in SOMETHING.

Of Bush’s $1.6 trillion in tax cuts, 70% went to the top 20% of earners; the bottom 40% got a heckuva 5%.

The economy has stayed afloat this far due to the complete fiscal irresponsibility of this administration. Combine $11 trillion in home mortgage debt with home prices just taking their biggest plunge in 35 years, and guess what’s at the end of the road? The open arms of the Bush Bankruptcy Act.

The savings rate has fallen below zero and income inequality is the greatest since just before the Great Depression.

And a direct quote from Mr. Freeman:

“Any moron borrowing almost $18 trillion in five years can fake the illusion of prosperity. But even at that, Bush can still barely even muster the illusion. The facade is popping rivets like the Titanic just before it went down.”

I'm confused...

Why are we legislating against unions between consenting homosexual adults? Seems to me there is far more harm done to society by hidden Republican homosexuals whose unresolved issues morph into hate for their ilk. We should be legislating against allowing unadmitted homosexuals to become Republicans; (Rove? Mehlman? Craig? [sorry, but I even wonder about our "leader," with his macho swagger], etc., etc.). Seems likely they've caused one heck of a lot more trouble for us. And yes, I am being facetious, but it's Saturday and I have to work. Oh yes, and Haggard -- who incidentally is looking much more haggard as time passes. Must be exhausting making up those intricate, believable excuses. "I bought it but I threw it away." "I only got a massage."

US tied with Botswana, Croatia and Tonga, yet Idahoans continue to decry the "liberal" media.

Since 2002, Reporters Without Borders has rated freedom of the press in 168 nations. That year, the U.S. ranked 17th. The 2006 index shows the U.S. to be in 53rd place, shared with Botswana, Croatia and Tonga.

In a February 2006 article, Timothy Karr wrote, “The tab for the fleecing and flogging of Americans comes to at least $1.6 billion. That's the amount seven Bush administration agencies spent from 2003 through mid-2005 on hundreds of contracts with advertising agencies, PR firms, and individuals, according to a Government Accountability Office report released yesterday.”

Those who continue to play the “Liberal Media” record can’t look much further than Fox News, because if they were interested in the truth there are still places it can be found. But by 2008, the Government Accountability Office will probably be gone because its very name is an anathema (look it up) to this administration.

Sometimes I wonder how all of these talking heads can continue to spit out the lies and consciously avoid the truth that should be the goal of a trustworthy fourth estate. Then I remember the ownership.

Doubtless, Bushco would label Justice Hugo Black treasonous for his interpretation of the first amendment as regards press freedom.

"In the First Amendment, the Founding Fathers gave the free press the protection it must have to fulfill its essential role in our democracy. The press was protected so that it could bare the secrets of government and inform the people...paramount among the responsibilities of a free press is the duty to prevent any part of the government from deceiving the people and sending them off to distant lands to die of foreign fevers and foreign shot and shell." Hugo Black, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

Idaho Protection the Federal Way

It defies logic that this administration’s strong point is protecting us from terrorism.

In 2005, The Boyd Group (http://www.aviationplanning.com/asrc11.htm) reported:

• “The United States is just as vulnerable as it was on 9/11...very little fundamental progress has been made in light of five years of trying.

• The Transportation Security Administration is a raging failure, run at the top by patronage appointees who have no fear of accountability.

• The proof for these conclusions is overwhelming - GAO reports, instances of major security breaches, instances of near-zero security on major airport ramps, and what is outright confusion on the part of Homeland Security. Further, note that in nearly every case where there's been a failure, the TSA never admits mistakes or faults.”

Meanwhile, Idaho’s own airborne threat does not seem to be of major concern to many local governments.

A Times-News editorial on Nov. 13, 2003 protested the state’s failure to notify news agencies for two weeks that the first human case of West Nile had been identified in Twin Falls. Rather than allow the potato vine to spread the news, they felt people should know it was not a public health threat.

In August 2004 the arrival of West Nile in Idaho was confirmed in a dead magpie; followed by infection of a Gooding County man and six Gooding horses in September 2004.

The adult Culex species of mosquito and any virus they carry are capable of surviving winter. Also, while resistance can build as the virus wends its way through birds, animals and humans, it is also true that the virus can replicate and become more virulent to overcome that resistance.

Gooding County Commission candidate Troy Hurd recently presented an emergency petition to county commissioners for creation of a mosquito abatement district. The commission has failed to take action.

Hey, there are a whole lot of Idahoans who don't get it, Jack.

Submitted to Times-News 10/19/06

October 15-21 has been declared “National Character Counts Week” by President Bush.

Given what this administration has done to America, if it showed character for even one week, it would be an improvement. But knowing Bush’s tendency to misspeak, I fear he likely thought he was proclaiming it “Only By Being a National Character Do you Count Week.” We all know who our national characters are, don’t we.

Bush proclaimed that “by demonstrating values such as integrity, courage, honesty, and patriotism, all Americans can help our children develop strength and character.” Hmmm. I wonder if his proclamation included the usual signing statement; backdated to forgive former lapses, of course.

Jack Cafferty opened his Broken Government special on Oct. 19 by saying, “Our leaders lie to us and steal from us and do it all with a straight face. They think we just don’t get it.”

My response? “Hey, there are a whole lot of Idahoans who don’t get it, Jack!”

So those who want to jump on the Times-News website and spout support for Bushco and their flying monkeys, go right ahead. If you haven’t figure out by now what has been done to your country, your constitution, and your future, the day is looming when you won’t be able to cover your ears with your hands and chant nanananana any more.

In the latest issue of Rolling Stone, Matt Taibbi writes, “The Republicans who control this Congress are revolutionaries.... In the past six years they have castrated the political minority, abdicated their oversight responsibilities mandated by the Constitution, enacted a conscious policy of massive borrowing and unrestrained spending, and installed a host of semipermanent mechanisms for transferring legislative power to commercial interests. They aimed far lower than any other Congress has ever aimed, and they nailed their target.”

Disagree with leaders, but don’t disrespect them
By ROBERT B. NORTON
Twin Falls

I do not respect anyone, nor will I read an article when they demean the office of the president of the United States. Calling our president (whether a Democrat or Republican) any type of name except Mr. President is not acceptable in my opinion.

I had the privilege to provide security for a past president of the United States. Did I agree with all he did? No. Did I call him anything but Mr. President, hell no! Did I like or respect what President Clinton did with a certain intern and the way he disgraced the office of the president of the United States? No, but I will never call President Clinton anything but sir or Mr. President. It’s not the man I always respect, but the office he holds.

I spent many a time with President Reagan. President Reagan overhead me say, under my breath, that a certain senator was a “member of the jackass family” after I overhead the senator say something I felt was not proper outside ear shot of the president.

The president told me in no uncertain terms that I was to always respect any senator of the United States and never refer to him or her as anything but Mr. or Ms. Senator. The president said that to do otherwise was not acceptable, and that it just diminished my ability to convey my point of view.

I knew the president was correct, and I never again (in public) showed disrespect for that senator or any other person that held that privileged office.

So when people feel the need to express their opinion on how the country should be governed by the president of the United States, I hope they do not belittle themselves or their views by also being a member of that jackass family.

REPLY SUBMITTED 10/6/06

Stop reading right here, Robert Norton, because I have just about as much respect for the members of this administration, especially the president, as they do for the American people. The latest scandal oozing out of Washington is just a small example of how they operate. Look like you’re doing what the people want but if you’re caught with your pants down (figure of speech), lie, spin, lie again, blame the Dems, blame the victims until everyone gets fed up with hearing about it.

Besides, what’s the big deal? So there will be some emotional scars from working in Washington. Many young people only a year or two older than the retired pages contacted by Foley but working in Iraq will not come home at all, will come home without parts of their bodies and/or with physical and/or emotional scars. Just imagine how much spin that generates by these idiots to justify their lack of concern for America’s soldiers.

Twenty-one killed in the first 6 days of October. But the fearless leader won’t consider leaving. He’s too busy learning those canned “cut and run” messages so he can continue to preach to his 30-something percent approval. Pathetic.

Same old Idaho Republicans

Stand behind party platform in GOP
By TERRY ROEMER
Jerome

Will you vote Republican? The Idaho Republican platform can be found at www.idgop.org. Some points of interest from the preamble:

We believe the strength of our nation lies with our faith and reliance on God our creator, the individual and the family.

We believe the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organization.

From financing government:

We believe Social Security should be stabilized, diversified and privatized to expand individual retirement options.

From education:

The Idaho Republican Party recognizes that the future of this great state lies with our faith and reliance on God our creator, in our strong efforts to uphold family values and in the quality of education provided for its citizens.

From American family:

We believe the traditional family to be the basic unit of society. Government officials and legislators are called upon to protect the traditional family and use all means possible to prevent expansion of the definition of marriage beyond that of a bond between one man and one woman. (Has Sen. Coiner read this?)

Are these ideals outdated in modern society for a political party? With liberals, environmentalists, Democrats and “enlightened” progressives running as Republicans in the Idaho State primary, the Republican Party will be transformed. Keeping the open primary system in Idaho will change (read destroy or transform) the Republican Party as we know it today. Idaho’s primary needs to be closed as 39 other states have done.

Read both parties platforms on their respective web sites. There is a difference.

One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors (Plato).

RESPONSE:

Read between the lines... wrote on August 30, 2006 11:04 AM:
"Same old "save our morals" speech failing to note what has happened to this country under a GOP who knows what strings to pull, but does whatever they want (moral or not) when the people aren't watching. They want Social Security changed so rich people don't have to repay bonds with interest they've borrowed out of it. This even though only the first $94,000 of earnings has Social Security deductions. Privatizing would transfer over $1 trillion from the bottom 95% of income distribution to the richest 5%. Well, they're taking almost everything we earn just to live now, why not give them the rest? And education? Look at the headline on Yahoo "Sharpest SAT drop in 31 years." Yet another "tell them one thing but do another" result. Unbelievable! And the old "God" argument. Let's be honest here. You have no more proof of the existence of your god than the Muslims do. Look into the origins of the bible you live by and get a clue."

Will Someone in Idaho Direct me to the Liberal Media?

Perhaps those Idahoans who are sure all accusations against Bushco originate with the evil liberal media will tell me. Where are they?

Democrats on the House Judicial Committee issued the final version of their report, “Constitution in Crisis,” the first week in August. But because there was no coverage by major dailies and no network news coverage other than a brief mention by Jack Cafferty, I wonder; is it possible that the “liberal media” is yet another fiction created by the great GOP bubble machine?

The report outlines possible violations of over 20 federal laws/regulations by Bushco, some repeatedly. It is a meticulously documented report that includes legal analysis, relevant laws and key documents and can be found at: http://www.house.gov/judiciary_democrats/iraqrept.html

The report offers “detailed factual findings” on: “Determination to go to War Before Congressional Authorization; Misstating and Manipulating the Intelligence to Justify Pre-emptive War; Encouraging and Countenancing Torture and Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment; Cover-ups and Retribution; and Thwarting Congress and the American Public.” I just love the way they say “misstating and manipulating intelligence.” In Kindergarten, we called it lying.

Reporter Justin Rood asked Rep. John Conyers, ranking Dem, why he produced the report.

Conyers answered, "We could get no response from the president...then we tried to get hearings in the Judiciary Committee," which met with a "no way" response. "Every sentence, every allegation, every accusation that we have in this 371-page report has a citation or a reference to it of where we got it.”

As soon as I find that liberal media, wow, are they ever gonna love spreading this one!

"We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution." ...Abraham Lincoln
